Listening Bodies
Enargeia
A vocative sculptural installation, large format photographic prints, sound compositions + artist book
In classical terms, the word ‘enargeia’ was used when the gods came to earth not in disguise but as themselves - the atmosphere of which can be translated as ‘bright unbearable reality’.
Returning to the event of memory with the possibilities of staging sometimes difficult and startling images of the wild animals and bird. Single images, will be experienced in temporary architectural structures, in relation to architectural large format images, that mediate the experience of the encounter and the telling of stories. Multiple image structures to overwhelm. ‘Live’ pictures are also made in real time, which audience members can join and partake in the processes.
The work draws direct structural inspiration from the British poet Alice Oswald’s Memorial (2011) , which is a homage to Homer’s The Iliad, and retains the poems energy through its vocative power of speaking directly to the dead.
To be exhibited at Sune Jonsson Center for Documentary Photography and Fine Art Exhibition Halls, Västerbotten Museum, Sweden 2024.
